MUMBAI, India -- March 16, 2007 -- In a review, Moneycontrol.com finds the Lenovo Y500 notebook computer solidly built, with a trans-reflective screen and a comfortable keyboard.
The Y500's basic configuration includes:
* a Core Duo processor * 512MB of RAM * a slot-in ODD * four USB 2.0 slots * a TV Tuner card * the Dolby Home Theater * the Shuttle Center
The Shuttle Center is a platform, which helps the user navigate between menus without a mouse.
The Y500 also comes with Lenovo's biometric face recognition technology, which is supported by Veriface software. The technology greatly enhances data security, Moneycontrol says. Through the face recognition technology, multiple users can log on to the Windows operating system and other applications without passwords.
Moneycontrol notes that the Y500's integrated Touch Pad has a wider touch area and provides two operating modes "to avoid the incident touching of Touch Pad when using a mouse."
In its lab tests, Moneycontrol finds the Y500's media center "very capable" and the unit's battery long lasting even when running intensive graphic applications.
Moneycontrol only has few complaints of the Lenovo Y500. One of them is the position of the Home, Page Up and the Page Down keys at the right side of the keyboard, which, according to Moneycontrol, is a minor annoyance. The Y500 could also do with a Core 2 Duo processor, Moneycontrol relates.
"[The Y500] is a good effort by Lenovo with a few niggling problems, but for the price tag of [INR]60,000, it is a safe purchase for anyone looking for a Core Duo laptop with media center functionality and an added cozy feeling of security," Moneycontrol says.
